Application Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years and capable of doing college level work. For non-native speakers, we require proof of English proficiency (at least 7.0 on the IELTS or 95 on the IBT TOEFL). 
Application Process
  1. Fill out the application below. Note that the application includes an essay. We would recommend drafting that essay on your computer and then pasting it in when it is complete.
  2. Schedule a telephone interview. The purpose of the interview is to make sure that the course is a good fit for you. The interview takes between 45 and 60 minutes.
  3. If accepted onto the course, you will receive a welcome letter via email with an enrollment agreement form.
  4. Fill out the enrollment agreement form, sign it, and mail it to us along with your deposit, to hold your space on the course.

    Please include the name of institution, years attended, degree awarded, and major/area
    Please write a brief (5 or 6 statements) "bio-blurb" about yourself which could be included in the program binder. Please include something about your hobbies/interests. (This is to be read by trainers and fellow participants)
    Do you have any medical problems or special challenges?
    Do you take any medication? If yes, please explain: Please share any other information that you would like the program staff to know.

    You as a teacher

    Have you taught before? If so, what subjects? When? Where? How long?
    Why do you want to teach English to speakers of other languages?
    What do you think will be your biggest strengths and areas to work on as a teacher of ESOL?
    What aspects of the SIT TESOL Certificate Course interest you?
    Where do you hope to teach? Country? Age Group? If not you not sure, just say that.

    Application Essay

    Please write a 400-500 word essay on the following topic.  We recommend drafting it on your computer and then pasting it in.

    A Harvard psychologist has stated that the three ingredients to successful learning are:  wanting to learn, knowing how to learn, and having a chance to learn. 

    Discuss this statement using personal examples from your own learning (not limited to language learning). You do not need to cite sources and we appreciate a personal tone, but please do check for grammar and spelling.
