Our Approach
Teaching and learning happen all of the time in organizations, be it in presentations, online courses, workshops, training, or hands-on practice. We work with instructors, teachers, trainers, facilitators, and presenters who are involved in developing knowledge and skills. Much of our work has also been with subject matter experts (SMEs) who are put in a position of needing to teach or share their expertise.
In our training and workshops, we focus on what helps people learn. There is a tremendous body of evidence-based research spanning over 100 years which identifies factors that affect and support learning. Our expertise is in helping people effectively put these principles into action in their teaching, training, and workshops.

Hands-on/Experiential Workshops
We have found that one of the most powerful ways of working with principles of learning is having participants engage in learning activities and reflect on their own experiences as learners. When teachers and trainers are able to shift to a learner perspective, the research resonates on a personal level which creates meaningful connections. By combining hands-on activities with guided reflection, participants are able to see how principles of learning actually work in practice.
Practical Frameworks and Skills
While it is important for people to understand the underlying principles of learning, teaching involves a variety of practical skills. In our workshops and training we focus on how to plan and deliver learning-centered lessons, presentations, and workshops. For participants to effectively put principles of learning into action, they must focus on, practice, and get feedback on these essential skills.
Teaching Practice/Debrief Session
Another major component of our work is to provide opportunities for participants to actually plan and teach lessons, run workshops, and deliver presentations to . In this way, participants can work on putting principles of learning into action with their own content and get immediate feedback from a learning perspective. With this approach, participants can ensure that they can make meaningful changes that they can use in their own context.
Reflective Practice
We believe that there isn’t a single ‘right way’ to teach. No technique or method works all the time with all students, so in order to serve learning, it is important to be able to reflect on what is happening and make adjustments. LTC has developed a rigorous approach to learning-centered reflection, which allows participants to focus on specific elements of their teaching/training. In this way, participants can gain insight into how their decisions impact learning and more effectively make decisions to maximize learning.
Observation/Feedback
One essential service that we offer is to observe lessons, trainings, and presentations, so that we can support instructor/facilitator development. We take detailed notes and lead debrief sessions, in which we reflect along with the instructor/facilitator about how the lesson impacted learners. By utilizing the reflective process, we dialogue with the instructor/facilitator to understand what aspects of their session are working to support learning and which might need adjusting.
Curriculum Development
We have a great deal of experience working with a wides range of subject matter experts. We review existing curriculum from a learning-centered perspective and can offer insights about what is in line with current research and what might be adjusted to better support learning.
Being client-centered
We recognize that each client and organization has specific needs and a unique culture. For this reason, we take time to do a needs analysis with our clients so that we can better understand their goals and develop customized solutions. We work closely with our clients to ensure that our offerings align with their needs and context.
Flexible solutions
Each client and context is unique. By first doing a needs analysis and listening attentively, we help our clients figure out solutions that make sense for them. These might include meeting facilitation, guides, E-learning, workshops, observation/debriefs, or full instructor development courses.
